Foundation year: 1972
President: Dr. Branko Dunjić, Center for Cleaner Production of Serbia
Secretary: Dr. Marija Nikolić, TMF – Department of General and Inorganic Chemistry, University of Belgrade
The Section for Chemistry and Technology of Macromolecules was established in 1972 to inform the public about current scientific and professional developments in the field of polymers and polymer materials, and to enable the exchange of knowledge and experience in this field.
Members of the Section are researchers from scientific and research organizations in Serbia and abroad.
The main activities of the Section are the organization of scientific and professional lectures and the affirmation of polymer science. In the beginning of its work in order to exchange opinions and affirm the science of polymers, the Section organized both scientific conferences and summer schools in the field of polymer science: III Yugoslav Symposium on Chemistry and Technology of Macromolecules in Belgrade in 1973, 6th Yugoslav Symposium on Chemistry and Technology of Macromolecules in Novi Sad in 1979, X Yugoslav Symposium on Chemistry and Technology of Macromolecules in Vrnjačka Banja in 1989, XII Yugoslav Symposium on Chemistry and Technology of Macromolecules in Herceg Novi in 1996, XIII Yugoslav Symposium on Chemistry and Technology of Macromolecules in Zlatibor in 2001, Scientific Conference on the occasion of the 65th birthday of Prof. Jovan Veličković, Summer School on Polymer Rheology in Dubrovnik 1979. Summer School on Polymer Coatings in Dubrovnik in 1985, Summer School on Processing of Polymeric Materials in Dubrovnik in 1990 and seminars: Testing of thermal properties of polymer materials in Belgrade in 1985, Chemistry and technology of macromolecules and Determination of molar mass and distribution of molar masses of macromolecules in Belgrade in 1992. The last independent meeting, the XIV Symposium on Chemistry and Technology of Macromolecules, which was dedicated to marking the 70th birthday of Prof. Slobodan Jovanović, was held in Vršac in 2006, after which the Section continues its work on the organization of scientific conferences within the annual symposia of the Serbian Chemical Society.
At lectures, meetings and summer schools, the section hosted many scientists, both domestic and from abroad. Among them were Nobel Prize winners P.J. Flory and K. Ziegler, as well as world-renowned scientists in the field of basic and applied research in the field of polymer chemistry: J. D. Ferry, R. W. Lenz, W. Shnabel, K. Dušek, A. Ya Malkin, G. W. Schulz and many others.
The President of the Section is also a member of the Presidency of the European Polymer Federation of which Serbian Chemical Society is an associate member.
